The First Trains
Trains have been around much longer than cars and trucks. The first
train used in United States was made in England. Then, it was brought
to the United States in 1829. Because it was light green, it was called
Grasshopper. Unlike the Grasshopper, this train was not fast. It only went10 miles an hour.
That same year, the second train was built by an American man. Compared
to the first train, the American train was faster. It went 30 miles an hour. People
were amazed. The new American train was called the Rocket. Can you guess
why?
